It seems that we’re entering another acute phase of the pandemic, where infections, co-infections, and their sequelae are getting worse, while the amount of good information and the ratio of good information to bad information are not rising at a commensurate rate.
(Quick medical terminology recap: “acute” is short-term and more extreme, while “chronic” is longer-term and the effects more spread out. “Sequelae” is a term used in medicine to mean “things that happen because” of something; it’s the same word and similar meaning to “sequel” when used for movies. The “ae” at the end is just Latin pluralization, rather than English “s” pluralization. Remember, though, that someone writing something in medical terms and/or Latin doesn’t necessarily mean they’re smart or knowledgeable or right.)
Therefore, I’ll be posting more messages to Pete's COVID-19 News for a while, in the hope that it will be useful to you, your friends, your family, and ultimately, to all of us.
More broadly, we need better societal and social tools to talk about important topics that have become polarized and near-taboo to discuss, even while they are incredibly important to health and safety.
The next message will be What I Tell Friends About COVID in December 2022, which is written as a shareable email and web page. Feel free to share it if you think it will help others.
Please do what you can to keep you and those around you healthy and safe.
You can reply to these notes with comments or questions, and I’ll get your reply in my email.
